Ashley is American, Kevin is from Scotland, and they met in Iceland 4 years ago on a Northern Lights tour. Since then, they have been paired together. The North American and Europe tectonic plates meet in Iceland, and, they met in Iceland being from each location so it was only fitting they got married in Iceland, too. Kevin got his kilt made from his family Tartan custom for the wedding. Ashley got a ‘just eloped’ custom pained faux leather jacket. They even got some cute details such as coffee mugs and ring box. For once I think the groom’s accessories beat the brides! They got married in the botanic gardens in Reykjavik before we took off to explore the Icelandic nature that they fell in love in. At one point I got completely soaked from some waves as a MASSIVE storm was rolling in (as you can see by the insane clouds towards the end). The wind also kept lifting his kilt, and well, the rumors are true. These two are just madly in love with each other which you can tell by the photos and their day.
A Cross-Continental Elopement In Iceland
Hm, how do I not write a novel here, haha. Kev is a Scottish native and Ash is American. So our meeting was completely a matter of chance. We met while on a, northern lights tour, in a restaurant called Kaffi Duus just outside of Keflavik. It was Ash’s last night in Iceland. Everytime the bus pulled over at a potential viewing site we somehow found ourselves standing together. After the tour finished and we were heading back to the hotels, we decided to go for drinks and spent the rest of the night talking until the wee hours of the morning. (And yes, we did see the northern lights that night)
Kev and I met in Iceland on October 4 of 2015. It only made sense to elope on the anniversary of the day we met in the place that we met.
Our vendors were located all around Iceland and our photographer, Steph, recommended all of them.
We’d probably say bar hopping in the pouring rain after our elopement in our wedding gear and hiking boots. There’s permanent mud embedded into the dress, but it was the best way to end a stellar adventure elopement.
