Sara and Jon travelled all the way to Ireland with their closest family and friends for an intimate wedding on the west coast of Ireland. The journey that brought them from Florida to Ireland for their wedding day is filled with tales of adventure and travel. So I’ll hand you over to Sara to tell you their story.
How Did You Meet?
Both of us met through friends who were on the same pub crawl. This is an odd thing since neither of us are big into “going out,” we would both prefer a night in. We were sitting across the bar from each other and we kept getting glimpses of each other before he made the move to come and talk to me. It was the best decision I think he’s ever made 🙂
Tell Us About The Proposal
In 2016 we had planned an almost 3-week vacation to Scotland, Ireland, England and France. We had LOVED every single thing we did. Our last stop was Paris, France which was one of my (Sara) top places that I wanted to visit. When we had first arrived at CDG, the day was very overcast which made the entire city look very drab and dirty so my first impression was not at the top of the list and I even reconsidered our next couple of days. Fortunately for us, things got so much better. While planning our trip, I had made a calendar of all things we were going to be doing. Jon told me to leave two times open for something he had planned. I didn’t even think twice about what it could be. On April 4th, we woke up VERY early to head to the Trocadero with the Iron Lady in the background. The sunrise was magnificent. We had found the perfect spot when Jon took my two hands and starting telling me how much he loved me. Again, I did not think twice about it because we were in the most romantic city in the world with no others around. At last, he had looked at me and used my middle name (and I then knew something was up) got on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was so shocked and truly surprised as I had absolutely no idea. I, of course, said yes. A few minutes after the excitement, I had had a random (at the time) lady come up to me give me a huge hug and said congratulations. Turns out, she was a photographer that was scheduled by Jon, to capture this special moment from afar which will forever be the most amazing thing ever! Since I wasn’t thoroughly prepared, Jon had also surprised me with a full 2.5 hours of Engagement Pictures in Paris to send to all our friends and family later during the day so I can properly “get ready.” The night ended with us going on the MOST ROMANTIC dinner cruise along the Seine (I would recommend to anyone) with the twinkling Eiffel Tower lights in the background.
An Elopement In Ireland
We decided to have our wedding on the Cliffs of Moher because it was breathtaking. Besides the Grand Canyon, neither of us had ever witnessed something so majestic. Neither of us wanted a big wedding or do have it in Florida (where we lived) because of the heat. We had toyed around with the idea of having it in the mountains of North Carolina. We have family members who all work for the Airlines (which would have been the most expensive part of the trip). They were able to make our dream come true of having a destination wedding. June was the warmest (it was only 50 degrees) in Ireland. We knew right away after deciding the country that the Cliffs were the perfect place along with the best place for pictures! Ours came out awesome! We’ve even started thinking about renewing in the exact same location 🙂
