Edinburgh City & Hills Elopement

Tess & Elliot always knew they wanted to get married in Scotland, and after much planning, they decided to have their elopement in the hills just outside Edinburgh.

An Elopement In Edinburgh

Tell Us About How You Met

A friend of mine invited me to Elliot’s bar for drinks after work one day. I wasn’t a big fan of Martini’s, which was their speciality, but I did become a fan of him. I became a regular at their bar until he finally asked me out.

Tell Us About The Proposal

We took an impromptu vacation for a few days so that we could just drink, relax and explore a new place. We went to a local zoo where he proposed at the Ape House where our only audience were two gawking chimps. We celebrated with a bunch of strangers/new friends that night.

How Did You Choose Your Wedding Location?

We knew that we wanted to elope in Scotland but figuring out where became my task. Even though Scotland is notorious for wetter weather, we wanted to be outside and somewhere beautiful. It seemed like I searched the internet forever before randomly finding St. Anthony’s Chapel in Holyrood park on the map. With as large as the park is I figured if Google pictures didn’t truly do it justice then by God there would be somewhere close worthy of our vows. Luckily, the location was perfect, the weather held up and we were both able to say “I do.”

What Was Your Favourite Moment From The Day?

My favorite moment was after the vows and kiss, when I turned around to see an audience had been watching us. There was quite an applause! I was wondering why my groom kept looking over my shoulder.

How Did You Find Your Main Vendors?

Actually, I found Anna after looking at dozens of wedding photographers portfolios and fell in love with her style. After telling her that she was our first step and that I was kind of lost on who to marry us, she hooked us up with our celebrant Dorothy, who also ended up being perfect for our laid back wedding. The florist, Lily West was just a wonderful fluke. We didn’t even plan on having flowers until two hours before. We walked by the shop, went in, met the owner (and her cat) and she was more than I overjoyed to make us a bouquet and buttonhole on the fly. It’s unbelievable how friendly and accommodating everyone was.

What Was The Inspiration Behind Your Wedding Day?

Honestly, we are both very earthy, laid-back individuals who love adventure, culture…and drinking, so that’s what we wanted; something to celebrate us our way in a Scottish way. We drank from a quaich, had a handfasting ceremony and even said vows just to make sure we hit every mark.

If You Could Do It All Again, Would You Do Anything Differently?

The only thing I would change would be how much I researched. I feel like I stressed myself out looking too deep into everything. Just like the florist, everything seemed to work out because of the wonderful team we had. Everyone being as helpful and caring as they were made everything seems like a breeze. It was a perfect day!

Advice For Any Other Couples?

The main advice I have is to enjoy yourselves. The key to our success was having the wonderful crew we had to help us make it special, so whatever you do communicate and be comfortable with your decisions. Scotland and specifically Edinburgh was such a wonderful place that never seemed to tire. It’s been almost a year and I still think about that trip every day.
