When Amber submitted this couples amazing ‘engagement tour’ through the Shetland Islands in Scotland, she also mentioned subsequently shooting their mountain wedding in Switzerland… so I immediately had to know more. It’s not often that we get to follow an adventurous couple’s full wedding story from engagement to wedding (and maybe even to their honeymoon travel stories afterwards?!). I knew I had to jump at this opportunity and asked Amber to also submit their wedding photos, too. The result is a two-part blog series of Perle & Baptiste’s wedding adventure - enjoy! (Part 2 coming on 18th November.)
Perle & Baptiste: Part 1
A moody Scottish road trip
Amber (photographer): I met Perle and Baptiste at a wedding event in Lyon, and we instantly clicked. They are an adventurous couple, in love with travel. Baptiste is a professional mountain runner, and they even met at a race! It was love at first sight! Baptiste proposed on a boat at sunset while on holidays in Corsica, only 6 months after they met. They were truly made for each other.
I shot their wedding in the Alps, but we decided to do something truly beautiful for their engagement session: a 4-days adventure tour through the Shetland Islands, in northern Scotland. It is a place I had visited before and I knew where to go with them in order to get beautiful pictures. As a professional destination intimate wedding planner and photographer, I created an itinerary that would include all the best places at all the best times, and we visited the island for 4 days together, driving slowly on beautiful roads and stopping from time to time to take beautiful pictures in amazing landscapes.
Perle (bride): We met during my first Trail race, on June 8, 2014. I noticed it on the start line and then at the finish (I had just arrived exhausted and in very bad shape, whilst I could see that he was already showered, had already eaten and was quietly drinking a beer with his colleagues).
I found him charming. I was pleasantly surprised to see him step onto the top of the podium, so I found him even more hot. After the awards ceremony I was invited to a friend’s house, so I couldn’t stay and enjoy the festivities.
That’s why on Monday at the office while looking at my results, I thought about the handsome guy from the race, I took the opportunity to look at his time and see what his name was. Baptiste Robin, interesting… let’s see if he has a Facebook account… Bingo! I found him, so I sent him a message congratulating him on his run and we never left each other again.
When we first met our photographer Amber, it was an artistic crush! We flashed on one of her wedding album and we melted on her pictures of landscapes. When she offered to accompany us to the Shetland Islands for a photo report, we signed up without delay. And, indeed, it was worth it because we took it with eyes wide open…
Scotland is a country of breathtaking landscapes. Despite the cold and humidity, the Scots are so warm and welcoming that they could almost come to terms with the bad weather!
Ambre is a very talented photographer, she knows how to spot the place but above all - the moment! She knows how to arm herself with patience and to shoot the cliché! Nothing is left to chance. Amber has a well-crafted traveling schedule and each place has its own particularity and especially its charm.
Don’t talk about a blue sky storm to Amber. That doesn’t interest her because playing with the elements of Mother Nature, shadows and lights, is her hobby. No wonder then that we find ourselves posing in the rain, in the mud or with hair in the wind… It is in the most extreme conditions that Amber will be able to deliver her most beautiful shots!
