Private Iceland Waterfall Elopement

Ash & Joe literally drove 6hrs in another direction with their family in order to get out of a massive storm. They eventually made it out with the guidance of their local photographer Steph Zakas, who found a secluded waterfall where they said their private elopement vows to one another.

A Private Elopement At A Waterfall In Iceland

Tell Us About The Proposal

Last October (2018), we took a trip around Europe through France, Spain, and the UK. I had an inkling (or maybe just hope) that a proposal was coming, but with each passing city, I was increasingly skeptical that it would happen. The very last night of the trip (typical Joe), we were wandering around London in the rain. We wandered through Bloomsbury Square right at dusk. Joe had made a joke out of handing me his trash to throw away for him. He handed me a receipt from his coffee that morning and then handed me something else.. a diamond. Very low key, but absolutely perfect!

How Did You Choose Your Wedding Location?

We always we knew we wanted to elope and we love everything outdoors. Iceland had been on our radar for a while.

How Did You Find Your Main Vendors?

Chantel Lauren is a local designer to Salt Lake. I had an eye on Chantel’s dresses long before I was planning a wedding. We found Steph (Zakas Photography) online. Joe and I both love photography and we immediately fell in love with Steph’s portfolio. We did everything else on our own. I wanted the entire thing to be an experience, including my mom and I walking down to a local floral shop in Reykjavik and making our own bouquet.

What Was The Inspiration Behind Your Wedding Day?

We never wanted a big wedding - we had always planned on making an adventure out of our wedding and doing it our way.

What Was Your Favourite Moment From The Day?

There were so many! One favorite moment was captured in the photo with the rainbow behind us. We woke up to a rainstorm and drove for hours that morning trying to get away from the rain. I spent all night listening to the rain thinking.. are we even going to get one decent picture? Are we going to be saying our vows in a hotel? That photo was taken right as we jumped out of the car for the first time and a hint of sun was coming out behind the clouds.

Our vows were the very best moment. Saying our vows in the middle of nowhere Iceland with no audience was the right way to go. I will remember those few minutes for the rest of my life.

If You Could Do It All Again, Would You Do Anything Differently?

Absolutely nothing.
