I don’t share a whole lot of couple shoots on We Are The Wanderers. But every now and then I’ll get a submission that catches my eye. Today’s feature of one of them. This stunning couple shoot in the sand dunes in the Netherlands proves that you don’t always need towering mountains or epic landscapes to create absolutely stunning pictures. All you need is a couple madly in love, and amazing photographer and if you’re lucky, some beautiful light. And this gorgeous couple shoot by Mirna aka The Wandering Childe ticks all those boxes.
A Sunset Couple Shoot In The Sand Dunes
A few words from the photographer Mirna
I met Tena & Martin on a rainy Belgian afternoon, as most stories in Belgium start. We hopped into the car, crossed our fingers, said a prayer or two to the fickle weather gods and drove onwards to our location. It was pouring rain most of the way, and I think all of our heart sank more and more as we continued to occasionally break the silence with a “I think it will clear up”. Their story hit me right in the heart when I first heard it. They told me how they suddenly decided to get married and had a very small ceremony on the town hall in Brussels. Like me, they were expats from Croatia, and had just moved into the country. They had no friends there to join them, and no family either. Only each other. And the only photos from their wedding day were just a few taken by the officiant at the town hall. So we came up with a plan. We would celebrate their love and their new marriage, surrounded by the dunes and the sea, bathing in the golden light of the sunset. Our prayers worked and the weather cleared up. We set off for the dunes through the forest, and were greeted by the most epic sunlight and sunset I have ever seen. It was just them, their love and the most serene landscape as far as the eye could see.
About The Couple - In Their Words
We are Tena and Martin, a couple from Croatia, currently living in Brussels. We met at law school in 2011 and have been together since. We have two tuxedo cats, Tolstoj and Mejzi, currently enjoying sea side with my mum!
We wanted something simple, natural, untouched, and possibly by the sea as I (Tena) come from an island. Mirna (The Wandering Childe) was so helpful and understood our wishes right away. The location she picked was just perfect for us.
We found Mirna by pure luck, online as she posted something that I accidentally saw. I started browsing through her photos and instantly fell in love with her work.
Our favourite moment was definitely when we arrived to the beach, after a few hours walking and shooting through the woods. We saw this amazing sand beach and heard the sea. It was the sundown and we were so happy and relaxed.
Do not look at what other couples do, find your own thing, idea, what makes you happy. And then do it. For us it was just the two of us in the town hall getting married. And then searching for the perfect photographer for weeks and months. And we instantly knew when we saw Mirna’s work. And it was the best thing we did.
