Some couples choose to elope with just the two of them. Others choose to an intimate family celebration. And today is a beautiful example of how you can have a wedding day that feels like an elopement whilst still having the people you love the most with you. Molly & Todd flew all the way from New York State to the Austrian Alps for their intimate celebration on the top of a mountain that held extra significance for them.
A Mountain Top Intimate Wedding In Seefeld, Austria
Tell Us About How You Met
We met by swiping right on Tinder before Molly went on a trip to Japan. We had our first date about a month later. A few days later, we went on what Molly refers to as our first chosen date (non-psycho factor had been assessed and there was a potential for more than friends). We went hiking in Vermont, spending the next 24 hours together hiking, eating, and Netflix & chilling (but actually).
Tell Us About The Proposal
Two years after we met, we went hiking on that same hike from two years ago. At the top of the mountain, I asked Molly to take some selfies of us. While Molly took selfies of us, I snuck out the ring and asked her to marry me. I also got her reaction in a picture that she hates. After I proposed, Molly asked “really?” several times in increasing registers. I’m pretty sure she said yes at some point.
How Did You Choose Your Wedding Location?
Molly’ told me we had to do it in Austria. And I was okay with it. But really I hoped for that all along. But actually, Molly’s family lives in Seefeld currently and she had grown up visiting in the summers. Because our families live all over the world, we knew travel was going to be a part of the day for at least somebody, and we wanted to be someplace that we felt happy, relaxed, and at home.
How Did You Find Your Main Vendors?
Google. Molly was searching for a wedding photographer for weeks, using the terms “Wedding”, “Photographer”, and “Mountain”. I think I found Wild Connections on Pinterest. Those pictures led me to Cat’s blog, which I subsequently showed to Todd. We both immediately decided to contact Cat.
What Was The Inspiration Behind Your Wedding Day?
Bringing our family together in our favorite place.
What Was Your Favourite Moment From The Day?
Having our family with us in an intimate setting on top of a mountain to celebrate our union. Todd’s favorite moment on a micro-level: seeing Molly come up over the ridge Molly’s favorite moment on a micro-level: Exchanging our vows (And the surprise cowbells!)
If You Could Do It All Again, Would You Do Anything Differently?
Eat more garlic soup at the restaurant. It was delicious!
Any Advice For Other Couples?
Remove any guilt about doing things the way you want to do them. It is your day. Small, large, indoor, outdoor, don’t let anyone tell you how your wedding should go. For us, in order to have less-stress leading up to traveling and the wedding, we chose to get legally married a few months earlier in the US, having two friends serve as witnesses. This allowed us to be fully present and enjoy the time with our families both in the days leading up to the wedding and the wedding day itself.
Honeymoon Plans?
We were already in our favorite place!! But we look forward to continuing our travel adventures in the future.
