Microwedding in Ireland on the Island of Inish Mor

This couple wanted a small, intimate celebration at a special location without all the fuss that usually goes on during a wedding. The Island of Inish Mor at the west of Ireland, with its special landscape and rich Celtic history, made a perfect spot to celebrate their love in a relaxed way with a small group of family and friends.

An Intimate Microwedding in Ireland

The ceremony

At an ancient monastery site on the island they had A Celtic/spiritual ceremony officiated by a Celtic priest who lives on the Island.  The ceremony also incorporated the Greek Orthodox tradition stefana crowns: two circlets joined by a ribbon to symbolize the couple joining together.

Since Nick’s family is Greek Orthodax they decided to wear their wedding rings on their right hands but felt strange not having anything on their left hands. Therefore they bought silver claddagh rings for their left ring fingers in Galway before leaving for the island.

Family and friends delivered moving readings that were very emotional and a local musician played authentic Irish wedding songs.

The party

After exploring some beautiful sites with their photographer, the couple joined their family and friends in the local pub for an authentic Irish celebration with Guinness and dining on fresh, local seafood. Exactly what the couple had envisioned for their wedding day.

The Island

Inish Mor is the perfect post for a small destination microwedding in Ireland. Reached by a very short flight or ferry, it is easily accessible from Galway on the West coast. You can find accommodation ranging from glamping pods to hotel rooms and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants serving traditional Irish food.

The rug landscape and monastic sites make the island one of the best locations for authentic Celtic weddings in Ireland.
